"A virtual character, or avatar, for all the virtual worlds in which people play is the goal of a joint project between IBM and Linden Lab."
Hi All- A collaboration between IBM and Linden Labs, the makers of Second Life, is aiming to create universal avatars that can travel between virtual worlds- possibly game environments etc. Is this a big step towards seamless- translated gaming experience? What would the benefits be? How would an avatars "skills" or a persons familiarity with the avatar affect their experience-emotional attachment etc? Is this the beginning of your eternity- as in when you die and your avatar lives on?

The idea of an universal avatar is really interesting though it's almost scary in a way. All they now need to figure out a way to create AI of a person and then a persona could, in theory, live forever as digital data roaming the net or what.
